I used to have great luck at DSW but went this weekend and felt like I was in Payless. So many plasticy low quality shoes. When I went around this time last year there were a lot of things I wanted to try on, but now, nothing.
Was it just an off day or has the quality gone down? Where are other good places to try on a lot of shoes for hard to fit feet? I'm looking for loafers and boots. |

I find DSW very hit or miss. Zappos has taken a lot of the fun out of it - I used to *love* browsing DSW. But sometimes it’s still great.
Nordstrom has a good range of shoes and sizes, but is obviously more expensive. |
| My mom and I were talking about this recently. I haven’t found anything great at DSW in well over a year, if not longer. I walk through and find absolutely nothing - can’t even use their coupons that they send me! It’s a bummer. |
| Personally I miss Payless so much. DSW has very little in wide width and you basically have to wander all over the store checking every stack of boxes to find what your options are. At Payless, I could just go straight to my size and choose what I liked. |
| I still find good stuff but agree it’s hit or miss. But I like it because I’m picky on comfort and can tell instantly with a try on. Hate ordering shoes online. |
+1. |
+1 That’s exactly what I was thinking. DSW is my first stop since Payless closed, but now I pay more for shoes I like less, and it takes a lot longer to shop. |
| Depends which DSW . The North Bethesda one is better. |
| I have good luck with sneakers there, not so much with anything else. |
| I miss Payless so much too. It was such an easy destination when I needed something f quickly for my girls, and also for me too. :/ |
| I feel the same why. I almost always found something I wanted at DSW about 10 years ago. Maybe even 5 years ago. Now, like you said, it's a bunch of trash. |
I basically go there to chase down discontinued models of running shoes. Everything else feels like it’s the orange cork-soled wedges that have been in the clearance section of every DSW since 2001 or weird stuff that must have been made just for DSW. |
| It's great for sneakers as a few posters said. I also still find bargains on good shoes in the clearance section, but never find anything good on the main floor. I got a great pair of leather Vionic loafers on clearance recently for like $50. I wear them constantly. But it's only ever in that clearance section in the back that I find good stuff. |
| They only sell "hooker" high heels or cafeteria worker rubber soles. There are no career shoes or cute current teen shoes. |
| Haven’t found anything there in years it seems. I wander in on occasion but leave empty handed. |
