Neighborhood going down the tubes with this MoCo council in charge. Firearms easy to win in

Anonymous
Multiple car breakins in cars have been occurring in our neighborhood over the last few months. Last night cops were everywhere on our street due to gun shots. It’s really sad how much crime has exploded around us. We live in an area that’s actually impacted by all of the council’s far leftist policies, unlike the council members themselves. We are starting to get scared how this might start escalating to home breakins or invasions.

How easy is it to own a shotgun in MoCo for home defense? Does this require as much paper work. I am seriously considering it at this point. Maybe I’ll just own rocksalt shells for now though.

Typo in stupid title due to this crappy device. “Fire arms easy to own?” should be in the title.

Why do you want a shot gun? Can you quickly reload?

If you want a shotgun in MD, go to a gun shop and see what they have. If you like one, you buy it. You fill out paperwork for it, they run a federal and state background check on you while you wait and if there are no issues, you pay and leave with the shotgun. Pistols are a different story.

Get a cross bow as well.

Get a couple. If Armageddon lawless zombie apocalypse breaks out you can saw one off in a survival mode.

If you really want to look at shotguns and dont mind driving, you can head over to Nations Gun Show in Chantilly, VA. Its going on today and tomorrow and it is massive. They usually have a MD dealer there if you want to buy something so they can handle any transfer issues if they occur.

If you can't hit something in less than 4 shots you have bigger problems. It's home defense, not for war.

So you can fire a warning shot into the air.

+1 Also worth adding that the sound of a shotgun racking is enough for most burglars to know you mean business and move on.

Better option, but more $$$ and takes longer to get, is something like a suppressed AR15 with a short barrel chambered in 300 blackout or 9mm carbine. That will give you more firepower and will preserve your hearing if you have to shoot.

Good suggestion though AR15s are mostly illegal in MD. OP-make sure to check your state-specific laws before bringing anything home/crossing state lines. (For example, extended magazines for handguns and rifles are fine in VA, but an issue in MD.)

I thought the person saying to fire a warning shot in the air Biden-style was going to be the dumbest dumbass on this thread ….. but then here YOU come along.

OP , don’t listen to either of these two idiots.

And forget the “rock salt” shells. For one thing, they’re commercially nonexistent. For another, you’ll go to jail for shooting someone with them. If you shoot at someone, it better be because you are in immediate fear of your life or another’s life. And you cannot lawfully use deadly force in any situation less than that. Conversely, a nonlethal type of ammunition like rock salt in effect proves you are not in fear of your life because you are intentionally using nonlethal means to deter it.

Go to a local gun shop here in Montgomery county and ask one of the employees to recommend a consultation from a firearms trainer. They will advise you of the laws with regards to self defense and assist you in determining what/if owning a defensive gun is right for you. Because it isn’t for everyone- especially the two morons in this thread who think firing warning shots or the sound of a pump action shotgun being chambered are effective or smart. Those two idiots shouldn’t be allowed to touch a gun.

Four shots? What if you’re attacked by more than four people? Home invasions almost always involve two or more assailants. Do you think it’s reasonable to expect a homeowner defending themselves to only shoot once per assailant, and never miss?

We don’t expect that out of our police. Why do you expect it from private citizens?
