What are your favorite cheeses for a cheese board?

Does TJ have decent cheese or Wegman’s? Or do I need to go to a specialty shop!

Yes TJ is perfect! They have a really good brie, the “unexpected cheddar” is really good, they have an 3 pack of Spanish wedges (like manchego) and don’t forget the cranberry goat cheese log.

For when easier if you have a Costco membership they have an amazing cheese board.
TJ has excellent options as well.

Hmm. TJ doesn't have a lot of high quality cheeses, just better than US industrial plastic cheeses. I suggest you go to Whole Foods (there is a cheese expert at the Rockville location) and ask for suggestions. Probably Balducci could help you out as well.

I would want Humboldt Fog and comte on my cheeseboard. Maybe a Caprice des Dieux, if you can get it.

I'm not a fan of soft cheeses so I enjoy things like Manchego, a really sharp cheddar (TJs used to make one that had caramelized onions in it, not sure if they still do but it was delicious), double gloucester cheese, and some wine infused parmesan type cheese (I can't think of the name)

TJ has a pretty good imported selection, and they’re usually pretty affordable. I can’t remember all the ones I’ve tried, but I like their unexpected cheddar, Le Gruyère, and the cranberry goat cheese logs. Plus, there is a good selection of meat and dips if you want those, too.

I worked as an affineur for a couple of years. TJ’s is actually pretty good for a supermarket, and the prices are very reasonable. That said, for a great cheeseboard there is no substitute for a specialist cheesemonger.

It all comes out the same.

I like the Cotswold cheddar from TJs. It’s an onioney cheddar.

I also love American Grana. Kind of a hard parm.

Cheddar with port wine

WF has a cheese expert named Brie—no joke!

And very knowledgeable too 😀

+1
I love costco cheese selection. I usually supplement a cheese board with Roquefort, which they don't sell.

I do have a Costco membership. They have a board already made?

Thanks. Didn’t even think of Whole Foods.

Yes! At least the one in Pentagon City did the last time I went there! Looked delicious. I mean you still have to take it out
And put it on a board but it’s already selected. I am pretty sure they had two different options one with soft and one with a variety. And Costco, especially now around the holidays, has an amazing cheese selection. Don’t let the snobs on here tell you otherwise.
