Red lanes are spreading from DC to MD

I actually like these - we've had them for 2 years or so?

Dedicated bus lanes! Hooray!

That red in the photo looks like someone turned the saturation to 11 in the photo editor, though.

It's not actually a dedicated bus lane when bikes are allowed to travel 15 mph in front of the buses.

Have you ever been on a bike? Or a bus? It actually is a dedicated bus lane.

Yeah, and a sidewalk is a dedicated bike lane.

Look up what dedicated means. A lane that a bus shares with other forms of transportation is the opposite of a lane that’s dedicated only for bus transportation.

If people want to call them red lanes, go for it. They’re not dedicated bus lanes, by definition (and every time it’s been brought up before, people here seem _extremely_ hostile to lanes that are dedicated to buses and bus transportation in general).

The new bus lanes also will allow for emergency vehicles and bicycles. Cars can enter the bus lane only to make a right turn, no more than 100 feet before the turn.

Nope. Have you ever tried to ride a bike when there is a person with a stroller and a dog on a leash on the the sidewalk coming from the other direction? That isn't dedicated.

And when MoCo’s taxes rise yet again, we know now it’s to buy all of the red paint needed to maintain these lanes.

This seems like it will accomplish almost nothing.

Bus ridership is way, way, WAY down. We keep creating dedicated lanes for modes of transportation that not very many people actually use (see: bike lanes).

Have you ever ridden the bus? People hate the bus because it takes forever and a day to show up, and then there's bus stops every 12 feet because, heaven forbid, people have to do some walking. Car traffic is not the reason people don't want to take the bus.

I’ll bet they take another lane from OGR and make it a bus only lane, leaving only one lane left for cars.

Think how green the county will be with 2 lanes sitting almost totally unused and the remaining lane choked with cars idling in traffic 24/7/365.

Good job!

Dedicated bus lanes are a waste of resources. They’re used a handful of times in an hour. Meanwhile you’re backing up traffic.

You: the bus is bad because it's slow
Also you: one of the main things that slows buses is not the reason for the bus being bad

Bus ridership is going up. Also, you know what helps with bus ridership? Better bus service. And you know what helps with better bus service? Buses not being delayed by cars.
