| Full confession-- I learned about it from Instagram (which I'm assuming is reposting from TikTok). Is Too Good to Go a thing in DC or mostly New York? I downloaded the app but haven't tried to grab any pickups yet. Does anyone have an experience in DC proper? |
| What is it |
| I’m not in the DMV but tried it and was sorely disappointed. They made it sound like you’d get a bunch of stuff. I got one dish. It was worth a dollar more than I’d paid. Not at all worth it. |
| I use it. It’s used a lot in my home country, not as much of a selection of places here. But I’ve been happy with it. |
| I used it. It’s hit or miss. |
| I used it during 2021. Got to try some places I might otherwise have missed that I now frequent. |
|
I’ve used it. I’m on the fence about it. The pastries are good but many have large loaves of bread they didn’t sell for obvious reasons, they just weren’t good.
I’ve gotten a box from Teamania and some of the pastries were just gross. Some of the stuff is leftover for a reason. La Madeline in Crown was really good but they stopped participating. I’ve also gotten Fresh Baguette and it’s mostly bread. Mama Lucia is good. I still do it once in a while since it’s only a few dollars and it’s fun getting a surprise box. |
| I’ve used it for various bakeries. I agree with prior poster that it has been hit or miss. |
| I love it!! There are a bunch of great options near me (Navy Yard, Capitol Hill, H Street). I usually grab at least one bag a week. And because it started in Europe and seems to be bigger there, I’ve also tried it while traveling. It’s a fun way to sample local cuisine! My only real miss on the app was at a grocery store in Italy. But the bakery we went to the day after was one of our best hauls ever. It kind of gamifies food shopping. |

I recently tired RASA and was a little disappointed. It said the bowl was worth $18 but it’s probably worth about $10. They on put 2 toppings on it. It doesn’t even come with naan. They fill the bowl with the bare minimum vegetable toppings.
The food is good but it’s not worth $18 |
| But you only paid $6, right? So you still got a really good deal! |
Same. We have had a few good ones. But also a box from a bakery where there were burnt and stale items. Or once we got all pumpernickel bagels. Husband ordered from a restaurant and thought it would be dinner food but it was baked goods and not entrees. |
|
I've tried it in Canada.
Some were OK. Some were a total rip off. For ex I got one from a fancy italian shop, valued at like $25. One of the items was a tiny snack size bag of chips, but they said the chips were valued at like $12??? Imported from italy and not even very good. So I think sometimes they take advantage a bit. I haven't tried it here yet though! |
| This is usually a good deal at bakeries because they want to move their products at the end of the day. It’s hit or miss at restaurants. |

I use it in NOVA and have had good luck at a local bakery near my house. Ratings are pretty accurate. I've tried a few other places that are harder to get to, and had lower ratings.
Bakery provides 4-5 sweet and savory items (danish, bagel, croissant, and that sort of thing). Bag costs less than $5, so it's a great deal. We've gotten this bag a few times, and haven't gotten anything burned or stale. I see a lot of DC locations, but I just won't go into DC for a pickup. |
