Solid B student (3.25 GPA) with ADHD, not submitting test scores - we've done a good job of finding some good choices within a 3-ish hour radius of DC. Student wants to be in colder weather, enjoys winter sports. Wants to study environmental science, biology, natural resource management. We've not traveled much in New England and I feel like we've not really evaluated options. Student will not have a car. Any quick brainstorms of colleges we should look at that are along the Amtrak north east corridor, or otherwise train accessible?
We've been looking at ~5K-20K size, a positive acceptance rate (65% or higher), more urban/suburban (ie, not an isolated campus - wants access to shops, restaurants, things to do). Has tended to prefer public universities to privates. I've only come up with UConn and UMass Boston. Other ideas? |
| U Vermont comes to mind but I don't know how accessible it is to Amtrak. |
| UVM is fantastic for environmental science, in a great small city with access to all the winter sports you can imagine and also has an Amtrak station. Couldn’t be more perfect based on your list. |

Marist College
Fairfield University Providence College (These are all private though). |
| Also - St Michael’s, Keene State, Sacred Heart, maybe Clark? But none fit as well as UVM |

Salve Regina in Newport RI - i always loved the Campus it’s beautiful!
Providence - might be a reach? |
University of New Hampshire? Amtrak station right on campus, hiking nearby, white mountains nearby. Easy access to Boston and Maine, cute little town. Our child was accepted with similar stats/background. Although didn't end up going as merit aid was not great and it was an expensive OOS for us. |
| UVM and UNH, obviously. |
| Drexel is an obvious option. You walk out of 30th Street station in Philadelphia and walk like 2 blocks and you are there. |

UConn is not really convenient to Amtrak (unless you mean the Stamford campus. You don't want the Stamford campus.)
University of New Haven The College of New Jersey Rutgers? UMass Boston Simmons Salem State |
The Amtrak Vermonter Train that stops in Burlington has one train in each direction daily - New Haven to St Albans, VT. |

University of Rhode Island
University of New Hampshire |
| University of Vermont |
| St Joseph’s University in Philadelphia |
| Delaware - Amtrak stop on campus |
