So with four meets this weekend - all of DMV swimming?

I didn't realize there was an Open and three invitationals going on this weekend.

I wish that they did not put all the meets on holiday weekends - feel like you can never go away.

Its interesting how oversubscribed the open is given the other 3 meets. Officials at these 7 meets are going to be spread mighty thin. One thing I like about swimming is that you don't have to do all the meets, if you want to go away this weekend, just don't sign your kid up to swim.

I wish. When a kid is going for a qualifying time, skipping a meet is not an option.

Seven meets is pretty crazy. I agree with the PP, on why is the Open so full (looking at psych sheets) when there are three others meets going on (my guess is that those meets are keeping it small).

A bunch of schools are also having their drama/theater productions this weekend. I think everyone is trying to squeeze stuff in before Thanksgiving holidays.

A qualifying time for what? Your DC has until May 30, 2024 to qualify for Olympic Trials.

🙄 This is the last meet most kids have to make winter champs cuts. Most kids competing in club swim are not making the time commitment and getting up at 5 am for practice just for giggles, they are working toward goals.

Winter champs. One of the reasons there are so many meets this weekend. This weekend is one of the last meets to qualify. Big deal.

Why are you on this forum? Swim is about making cuts and always making the next cut. So winter champs in December. PVS Champs. Zones. Etc.

It is not about the Olympics but making the next cut.

And like someone purposely being an @ss and suggesting it’s not like the kid is going to the Olympics so why would they even care.

Agreed. It was mean.

I think when kids don't have a kid that is truly passionate about a sport they just don't get it. I have three kids and they are all good athletes, but my one kid is obsessed with swimming. It is everything. They practice, train, and think about it all the time. It would crush them to miss a meet because they are constantly trying. My other two, like it and have fun. But, they would not care if they missed a meet.

Sorry -- meant to say when PARENTS don't have a kid that is truly passionate about a sport.

Being passionate is one thing. You and/or your kid obsessing about just barely making a cut for the NCAP Invite (or whatever meet) is something entirely different. A lot of kids make these cuts. A lot don't. Relax and let them be a kid before you make them hate swimming, or make them obsess even more to please you, just because they didn't make a cut that all their friends made.
