| Last time I used my recently acquired air fryer, I heard my electric panel was buzzing. It’s the fourth or fifth time I’ve used it, and this may have occurred previously, I just didn’t go to the room the panel is in while I was cooking. Would this occur because I used too high a wattage (I’m reluctant to try it even with a lower wattage) or do you think there’s something intrinsically wrong with our panel / these wires? |
| I would have an electrician come take a look. |
| Try it in a different circuit, one with minimal load. |
The one it was on had practically nothing in it (phone, old boombox and insinkerator that was off). |
Still. It helps you know if it's an artifact of the fryer or the circuit. |
| Do you know how many watts the air fryer pulls? The load limit for a 15 amp circuit is 1800 watts and if your getting close to that it could cause the breaker to buzz. |
|
They can pull a lot of power. I got one during a kitchen renovation, so I was using it in the basement - quickly found that only certain circuits in our house could handle it, and those only when I was running nothing else on that line. I blew breakers several times sorting it out. Now that it's in my kitchen on a dedicated breaker, it's fine.
So, I'd try a different circuit before anything else. |
| I would return it. |
It has three settings (900, 1500 and 1800) and I was probably using the middle one. I checked the user manual yesterday and unless I missed it, there guidance as to what wattage to use, surprisingly. |
| *is no |
| Probably a bad or loose breaker |
Is this a old house? Our house built in 2019 doesn't have this issue. This is why I only buy new homes |

A 15A circuit at 120V offers a maximum of 1800W, a 20A circuit offers 2400W.
But you generally don't want to pull the max more than momentarily. You want to sustain no more than about 80% of the max. So 1440W and 1920W, respectively. 1500W on a 15A circuit is pushing it really hard. What amperage do you have in your kitchen? https://www.thespruce.com/calculate-safe-electrical-load-capacities-1152361 |
Lol, OK. Must be nice to not live in the DMV. You know older homes can have upgraded electrical systems, right? And you know newer homes can have barely to code electrical systems, right? So maybe the age of the home has nothing to do with this, Miss I Only Buy New Homes. |
