Which HS have the top POMS dance teams in MCPS?

How are they judged? Are there divisions? Do the students construct the routines?

There are 3 divisions. The dance teams are judged on technique, formations, Poms forms, Kickline, Hip Hop, and overall presentation. The students do construct the routine but receive help from their coaches. Whitman had the best routine last year but that happens when your parents buy the Washington head Cheerleader as a coach.

Poms is a school sport, not a club sport. Coaches are hired by MCPS.

Clubs don’t have coaches. Are you implying that MCPS just assign sport coaches to schools? If you are, then you’re wrong. It’s posted as a job and you must be a MCPS professional or meet their athletic education requirements. Whitman High School hired the Pom coach and I’m certain the parents are helping fund the salary.

A lot of parents and students were questioning the placements of the teams. Some years, the judges are indecisive. Also it doesn’t look good when the 1st place team coach is a Washington Cheerleader. I also believe a school was unfairly moved down a division for this upcoming year.

I’m sorry. Let’s end this thread here and go back to the lovely discourse about which school with a W in front of it is better.

WJ is moving up to D1 this year, but have no idea why.

Why would that not look good? The 1st place cheer teams in D1 have the Twisters coaches as their school coaches and many of the girls on the school teams cheer for private club teams. That is how sports work...

Why not? Isn’t the goal to hire someone with professional experience in their field? If the boys’ soccer team hired a DC United player as coach, would that be a bad “look”?

I’m not clear on what kind of corruption or unfair advantage is being implied here. Without more specifics, it just sounds like sour grapes.
