Lakewood ES Kindergarten

With an upcoming new K student at my home, does anyone have any insights about the new K teacher at Lakewood? We heard that the good K teacher left and the new one couldn’t control the class in last school year. Any improvements this year? Thanks!!

There was an entire post on the problems with the principal there. Not sure if she is still there. My kids are older now.

A lot of the staff, the better ones, left.

She’s still there. MCPS couldn’t care less about the LES community despite numerous complaints.

Boost the thread. Does the current K teacher have the ability to control the classroom?

There are 3 K teachers. One has been teaching K there for a long time, one started this year, and another got moved to K from another grade. I haven't heard anything about issues with controlling any of the K classes.

Aren't they all kind of new at teaching Kindergarten at Lakewood?

I just looked and didn't recognize any of their names but my kids have been out of kindergarten for a couple of years now.

One of the teachers looks like this would be their third year teaching K at Lakewood. One was in the new staff introduction page so is new to Lakewood. I don't recognize the other teacher's name either. Not sure if that was the one that got switched in the grade level they teach.

^ previous poster, adding some more thoughts

I do see that the new Principal is making efforts to be more communicative with the community, and haven't heard much grumbling in the community lately. Things seem to have settled down, though parents have also become more involved because of the events of last year.

But, time will tell. This time last year, I had no idea there were issues at school. It all only came out at the end of school year when state testing revealed that K students were being totally failed educationally. There were also some disciplinary issues that were simmering, and also blew up at the same time. It was a mess.

>The problematic K teacher from last year has left the school. Haven't heard anything bad about this year, but then again, the parents of the K students I discussed this with last year are all first grade students now, so...

Please forgive my lack of coffee and poor wording; I meant to say that I am not familiar with this year's crop of K students, so I don't know if there are issues this year. But it hasn't popped up in the community group chat this year.

Well knowing the Principal I would be slow to blame the teacher and students. She is everything the parents were worried she was.
