Blizzard kit for when you’re snowed in?

Anonymous
My father has been a snowbird for years, but now he will be spending the winter in a snowy/icy climate where his lady friend lives, in his own apartment.

I want to create a blizzard kit of sorts, sent via Instacart, of things he might need in case he can’t (shouldn’t) leave the house for 1-3 days in the event of a large snow/ice event. What should I fill it with?

Apparently, eggs, milk and toilet paper.

On a serious note, I like soup and crackers on wintery days.

I'm thinking you may need Amazon as well as Instacart for a good kit.

Canned soup, oyster crackers (Instacart) and a good can opener (Amazon)

Big mug and an electric kettle (Amazon) instant cocoa/coffee/tea (Instacart)

Cozy cookies (stroopwaffels!)

Fleece lap blanket and a good book (Amazon)

1. Rechargeable batteries with charger, regular batteries,
2. flashlights,
3. radio,
4. first aid kit where he can add his meds.
5. blankets.
6. shelf-stable food, and if he has a gas stove, then food he can reheat. Don't forget the stove lighter, because the electric starter won't work.
7. in high-rise buildings, sometimes water pumps stop working if the electricity goes out, so he may need extra water bottles.
8. paper goods.
9. cell phone battery pack.
10. phone number of all his utilities on his fridge.
11. car tarp so he doesn't need to dig out too much but can slide the tarp off
12. shovel and snow brush for car. Careful of heart attacks while digging out.

But most of all, he needs to be stay on top of weather alerts, so he can prepare (charge all his batteries and devices) and be ready.

I think this type of list, plus making sure he always keeps an adequate supply of his prescription meds, is sensible.

What area of the country does he live in? I personally think the poster referencing rechargeable batteries, flashlights, radio, etc. is off base. If the power went out for an extended period of time, he would have to go to a warming shelter - it's not really feasible to stay long term in a house without power in blizzard-type weather. It would get very cold, very quickly.

Depends on the housing. He may have a well-insulated home and/or wood stove.

It's never a bad idea to have battery-powered (check not rechargeable!) flashlights/lanterns on hand. NP.
