MCPS tech people can you please make the gradebook useful

The first iteration actually worked and totaled up all tasks versus PP. Now you have to click on every assignment and there's no easy way to total it up. Why do you "fix" stuff that wasn't broken and then break it?

I would be useful if the teachers used it.

Are you talking about synergy? McPS doesn’t make that—they buy it.

Teachers aren’t happy with the new iteration of Synergy.

Teachers have been unhappy with all versions of synergy.

I don’t understand why the county pay for this crappy software. I’m in IT industry, I don’t know how this can deployed as a product, it’s awful.

MCPS customized it and they did a terrible job.

One fancy dinner with an admin, and then they don't need to fix bugs ever again.

+1
I have a relative who works in a different school system and it actually works.

The high school computer programming clubs could make a better replacement for Synergy/Canvas.
They should do it.

Actually, about 6 years ago some kid made an app that downloaded info from synergy and made it useful. All the kids used it. Not sure it still exists.

No -- it was pretty clear that they got a cease and desist letter from synergy. My teen wanted to program a new one and I discouraged that since it sounded like a legal headache.

Some teachers seem to make it work fine. In order for it to work, they actually have to use it.

The functionality the way MCPS made it just isn't there. It doesn't matter how often or how well teachers use it. You can see some of the grades but it requires too many clicks to total it up and you can't see what kind of grade is needed to get the grade up or down. This functionality is really useful and used to be there but then MCPS did an "upgrade."

That's terrible. If money is the issue and MCPS can't hire better programmers and supervisors maybe just have a contest and let the high school kids in MCPS rework the implementation for free.
