Is Einstein the obvious choice for this kid?

Anonymous
We recently into a house that's about equal distance from Einstein, Northwood, and Blair, and assigned to Einstein. Kids are finishing the year at their current school and then will move to the new schools.

My 10th grader loves music, and hopes to major in it in college. He sings and plays an instrument, and would love to take a dance class or do some music theater in high school.

He likely won't play sports in school.

He has inattentive ADHD and anxiety, and would have a 504. He's stronger in English/Social Sciences than STEM, and has a mix of A's and B's.

Would you put Einstein first and be done? Are there other schools you'd think about putting first?

He really doesn't want to ride a bus, and where we live he could easily bike to Einstein or Blair.

put Einstein first, then Blair. He’ll go to Einstein and it’ll be perfect for him!

So, dumb question, but if he's guaranteed Einstein if he puts it first, is there any reason to put more choices on the form? Or does the form force you to fill out all the spots. If so, is there any reason to spend a second on figuring out the rest of them, or should he just put them in order of distance from our house or something and be done?

I mean if he doesn't want to ride the bus then yes put Einstein first and be done with it. It's a great school.

IIRC you do have to rank all 5. But the order of the others doesn't matter once you rank your home school #1.

If the bus wasn’t a factor is there a reason to look at the other schools?

Einstein is great for performing and fine arts. Their school musicals are routinely terrific.

Do AP instead of IB at Einstein if your kid is anxious. IB at Einstein was a disaster for our smart but anxious kid. The APs were better for him. Plus his college has t given him credit for any of his IB scores but he got credit for all his AP scores.

I have two very happy musicians/performers at Einstein who are also solid students taking APs. You don’t have to do the IB diploma to get rigorous courses.

I don’t know if anyone answered you, but yes the form makes you fill out all 5.

Honestly I don’t see him as an AP or an IB kid. How is Einstein for kids who aren’t academic high flyers?

I’m not sure. He took mostly AP, IB, and tenth.

I didn’t love Einstein. But I’m not sure Blair is any better.

It’s pretty harsh to make your kid change schools junior year. Is there any way he could stay at his home school?
