Admission Consultant Recommendation - Hourly services

Anonymous
Can you please recommend admissions consultant who charges hourly. Looking to set up one or two sessions to get some targeted advice and ask questions for a kid looking at top colleges. Not looking for packages or essay, applications help etc. If you used someone like that and were happy with their service, can you please share website/name? Thank you.

If your kid is a senior or even a junior, you won’t be able to get on the calendar of anyone good. They fill their rosters early, and stop accepting clients.

College counselors on Wyzant charge hourly. You can look by location if you prefer someone local. Take note of hours worked, ratings, and specific reviews.

Pick some top colleges in smaller communities. Google “college consultant” and the name of that town. Very likely you’ll find some consultants who worked in those top-school admission offices. And because they still live in the smaller community, they’ll likely be less booked, have more flexibility, and maybe lower rates than consultants in larger cities.

That’s not a concern. Please share contact

You are contributing to the already toxic college admission situation by hiring admissions counselors. Stop gaming the system and calm down.

I am not the OP - but reality is that not all High Schools are equal in their ability to support students.
Our public school tells you how to request transcripts and teacher recommendations through Naviance and calls it a day.

There are many steps in the process. Our admissions counselor focuses on right place for the student so that it is a process of exploration and uncovering what is right for the student (and family). I actually think quality admissions counselors would reduce the "toxic" process by opening up the process for students to consider more colleges and take the stress down.

We can all rationalize just about anything, can't we?

So completely not true. In fact, funny.

I haven't found anyone inexpensive who knows all the colleges that well. Maybe they exist out there, but the really knowledgeable and helpful experts are definitely not working for $120/hr for three, one-off sessions.

I think the hive mind on here, or maybe CC, is better if you want inexpensive advice concerning admission to a "top college".

There is a lack of genuine knowledge on here. In fact, the real knowledge, when it does exist, is kept close to everyone's chest for fear of raising the competition. Otherwise it's just opinion and conjecture and very few actual stats. There's a lot of BS.

We worked with a very expensive private college counselor who charges by the hour. A fraction of their advice was really very good. The rest of the time they made wild suggestions that were untenable or told long boring stories of their successes (student success) while simultaneously deriding and mocking those same students or their families. That didn't instill confidence in us to continue working with them.

Good ones charge $1,000 - $1,400/Hr.
