Respect your veterinarian's time away from the office.

Vet here - I live in the community I serve. My cell number is in the school directory. I volunteer for a number of different activities.

Do not.
Do not.
Do not.

Text me after hours asking me questions about your pet. Especially at night. When I am asleep.

You would not text your MD questions if she was a parent at your school. Don't do it to your vet.

I can’t believe the nerve of some people!

You need a canned reply like “this is my personal number. Please call my office during work hours to make an appointment.”

Holy hell in a handbasket…you CANNOT be serious. Whoever texted you is a complete and total a$$hole!!!

+1, I can’t imagine people thinking this is okay

Actually they do text their doctors (wife of a pediatrician here) and yes it's obnoxious.

Dear Dr Vet,
Thank you for taking care of our pets. I am so grateful for your care.

Sorry there are some fools abusing the school directory.

Was thinking the same. We don’t list the physicians number anywhere.

I can't believe you had to post this, OP! Sorry about the morons who disturbed you. Stay well. Your work is appreciated.

But also use Do Not Disturb at night. You can program it to let through certain phone numbers but not any others.

OP here - thank you...I really appreciate the support you all have given. I know I can do DND....I just have a lot of people who I would have NO PROBLEM helping at any hour because they are my friends/family/etc and I want to be available to them. I may have to do DND, I guess. The fact that some people have no respect for boundaries is so sad....It was late enough that I was asleep!!!

No one should be using the school directory to reach you in your professional capacity outside of business hours, but you’ve piqued my curiosity; were they at least established patients and not just freeloaders?
Anonymous
That's nuts. My DS is friend's with the son of my gyn. I would never dream of reaching out to her via school-provided directory to ask a question.

Yes they are established clients. But it was for information that could have easily been obtained in another manner. Grrr.

Kind of first world issue. I have a job. I have food. I just wanted sleep!

I'm sorry but you should have said that up front. That completely changes the dynamic and expected responses from this resource. Please don't post half-truths again.
