Bread lovers how do you kick the habit?

I live for bread. It’s what I look forward to when going out to eat more than anything else. A great croissant makes my day and my comfort food is toast. I’ve put myself on a 1200 calorie diet (I’m 5’2” and want to lose 20 lbs) so to eat real food I need to kick the bread. If you’re a bread lover how did you kick the habit?

Just stop buying it and avoid bakeries. I still love bread and overindulge when warranted, but I don’t eat it daily.

I am like you and I just had to accept that it was basically an addiction and I could not eat it in moderation (1-2 times a week because daily is not moderation), so I had to give it up. After 1-2 weeks, my body felt so much better and my face looked so much less puffy, that it's helped me stay away.

Bread has been a staple of the human diet for 10,000 years. There is nothing wrong with bread. The problem is with the product on American grocery store shelves that they call bread. That stuff is not bread, it is processed garbage.

Try Ezekiel bread instead. It is great for you and delicious. Or get some sourdough made only with the minimum ingredients.

Go cold Turkey and eat none for some weeks.

Most bread easily available (unless you live in Paris) isn't really worth it anyway. You can have it occasionally, as a special treat, but otherwise, tell yourself it's not that delicious! I empathize, I also love bread with all my might, but after 50 I had to give it up to fit into my clothes.

A couple of posts have summed this up: most bread is processed garbage and even the "good" bread should be eaten in moderation. You'll enjoy it more if you eat less of it.

Also a good point: stop eating it and you won't crave it. It will take a bit to cure the craving but it does go away.

I love bread but have high standards. I bake my own bread so the bread I eat is not filled with preservatives and sugar. I also find when I make food myself I'm less likely to over-indulge. Something about the process tempera cravings. When I bake, I'm always inspired to share it with others, I guess our if pride.

NO one is going to comment on the unsustainable 1200 calorie diet?

The bread we get from the farmers market is totally worth it (fortunately or unfortunately!). But as a PP said it is so good that a small piece is fine, especially if dipped in olive oil.

I am 5ft 2 and 145 pounds of fat. I eat around 1200 a day and find it reasonable too.

It's ridiculous. OP might lose her 20 lbs doing this, but then she'll eventually start eating normally again and gain it all back. Especially if the diet requires her to give up foods she loves completely. You planning to stop eating bread forever?

She can find new foods to love.

Start with high protein, high fiber bread, with avocado or hummus. Shift from carbs to protein and plant fat
