From parents: $150 Amazon card
From kids: classroom decorations, a few months subscription to a favorite streaming service, concert merch from my favorite artist, themed art and trinkets.

Yes, I’m aware parents bought everything. But I separate out because there’s no way the parents would have known to get the things without student input.

A thoughtful note from the student is always my favorite gift. I have a box of the ones I’ve received over my 20 years of teaching, and it is one of my most treasured possessions.

I also keep all of the notes I receive in a box near my desk. I refer to them on my bad days, the ones so bad that I think about quitting.

These notes are more valuable to me than gift cards.

Amazon or target gift card.

Though I will say that a family once gave me a hydroflask. I use that thing every day and it reminds me of that lovely family.

And it would've been easy to regift if I wanted to.

When in doubt a generic (Target, Amazon, etc) gift card is best.

Thank you so much for these replies- I am OP and I sincerely just want to thank our amazing teachers in a way that they will enjoy! My kids always write notes, but I’m not sure what’s in them lol.

Gift Cards are nice - keep in mind the Visa type ones can be a pain to use in a lot of places so I always immediately turn them into Amazon cards.
Gift Cards to restaurants or Total Wine can be great - it's a push to treat yourself and your family.
about 10 years ago several kids gave me really fun Vera Bradley beach towels - I would never have bought them for myself and use them every summer.
Yetis and Hydroflasks are really nice and something a lot of people wouldn't buy for themselves.
I have worked with several teachers with lots of allergies so please don't give food like fancy chocolates (they usually have nut oils in them) unless you know for sure the teacher can eat them. I once had a kid whose family owned a fancy bakery give me a beautiful cake to enjoy for Christmas dinner (in an area where we went to school until December 23)
This sounds funny but I've been gifted Bombas socks and they are a fun and super useful gift.
Gifts that show you and your kid have paid attention to who the teacher is as a person mean the most. The book I got about my academic specialty meant a whole lot more than the gift card I got to Lululemon (a place I would never shop).

One year the parent association rep asked where we like to shop and what hobbies we have-she then got the class to contribute to a gift card to my favorite nursery. It was a great gift! (But yes, the handwritten cards and notes from students are really special and I hang on to many of them.)
