| If you are one of those rare families whose highschool aged teens are getting a good, healthy amount of sleep, can you please share what time your teens usually go to bed and what time they get up in the morning? Just trying to get a sense of what the ideal is. |
| My 16 yo has recently gotten into a nice routine of falling asleep around 9:30-10 pm. She has to wake up at 6 am for school. Now, my 13 yo has more or less the same schedule but he needs more sleep! |
|
15 yr old - lights out around 9:45. Wakes around 6:30.
My now 18 yr old last year would go to bed between 10:30 and 11, also woke up at 6:30. |
| My 14yr old downtime on her phone goes off at 10pm and she rarely is awake past 10:30pm. Between school, sports, and homework she is exhausted. Up at 6:45pm so she gets a little over 8hrs. |
| I’d say asleep by 10:30-11:00 and awake at 6:45. Very consistent and does it on their own. Our other kid is a mess and it’s more like 1:00am-7:05…not enough! We try to manage but we go to sleep around 11:00pm so can’t do much about the night owl. Late teens. |
|
Mine sleep from about 10-7 (are in their rooms without electronics etc and presumed to be sleeping). Our normal HS start time is 8:30. They also have two late start days per week (start time 9:30) so on those days they usually sleep late - wake up around 8.
I can’t imagine how it would be with earlier start times however. Middle school was bad enough (7:30 start, for us). |
| Mine go to sleep between 10pm and 11pm, depending on sports schedules. They wake up at 7:30am... so about 8.5 to 9 hours of sleep. The late wake-up time is possible because 1) they are boys who shower at night, 2) I make their breakfast when I am making my own, and 3) they bike to school (can leave the house at 7:50/55 and arrive at 8:05 before the 8:10 bell). |
| 10ish until 6:50 |
| Most school nights it is 10pm until 7pm. 15 year old boy. Occasionally he is up later if there is an unusual amount of homework. |
10pm-7am |
| 17 year old is in bed by 9:45, up at 7. He’s had that same schedule for years. |

How are they getting their hw done??? My 11th grader sits down around 8:00…post sports practice, shower, dinner and is rarely done before midnight or even 1:00-1:30
No phone etc |
My 10th grader got home around 5:30, dinner at 6, then started studying for tests. She does the bulk of her homework at school during the free period. She's usually in bed around 10, up around 6:30. I think she'd collapse if she was routinely awake until 1:00. |
| My 16 year old goes to bed between 10-10:30 and up at 7:30. |
Do they have a block schedule? That is how my kid gets to bed by 10pm. If they had all their classes everyday it would be too much. |
