Woman murdered at Burke Lake Park

Anonymous
Just seeing this report at https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/10/02/fairfax-burke-lake-park-campgrounds-body-found/ . Woman had been using camp grounds and her body was found in the tent.

This is so heartbreaking. Putting this out there for awareness. Suspect has been arrested in NJ. He stole women's car after the murder. A quick search shows that he was previously arrested in January 2023 and released on bond.

Be careful, ladies, as I know many here likely go to Burke Lake quite a bit. There are lots of runners at Burke Lake and XC meets - one this week actually.

she was using the camp ground -- not what 98% or us are doing at Burke Lake Park

Are homeless allowed to live in the park now? What were these two doing there?

Are they allowed to live in the park? They're apparently allowed to pitch a tent anywhere around here no issues haven't you seen the tents on the medians?

I am not victim shaming at all, but there's a little more to the story.

"Abbruscato was previously reported missing on September 3 when authorities said she was “endangered due to mental &/or physical health concerns,” a previous statement from the FCPD indicated. She was found safe later that day, the post stated."

She was living in the campground. This wasn't a person just running through Burke Lake Park. Its very sad all around.

The two knew each other. Knew each other, I'm guessing online, for a week. Agreed to meet there at the park.

Perp released on bond in NJ in Jan. For what crime? Which judge? And how much bond? Does WP share those details?

Agree, this is sad. She clearly was a vulnerable person and it sounds like someone took advantage of that, possibly.

There’s lots of kids camps there and beginners camping there.

Are people allowed to die there now? What were murderers doing there?

Whether someone is having a hard time shouldn't matter. Someone in that park is murdering women. Think we should we focus on that part of the equation. Arrest and - in my opinion - execute the murderers. Victim blaming is always awful. It betrays a total lack of empathy

They knew each other. Campers are not at risk.

It is scary but I’m still going to continue to go there. I read they seemed to be hanging out together in the week before so I don’t feel like it was a random attack. But idk - I’m very sorry it happened.

PP's use of betrays is correct.

But even if it weren't, picking on a wrong word is hardly a rebuttal of her excellent point, which is that asking what the victim was doing in a campground misses the point and shifts the blame away from her murderer.
