Top 25 NOVA High Schools

Honestly? I am surprised the pass advanced rate at TJ for math is as low as it is. Then we have schools considered in the top with math pass advance rates under 2% what is going on with math instruction in this state?

Honestly? Just looking at those numbers I am not wow by any of them. But I think there is also more to a school and what makes it great than test scores or absentee rates? I don't know.

I don't put too much stock into that stuff.

The author must be sleeping with the superintendent of Loudoun County schools. Every other school on the list is from there. We all know that’s bullshit. Both Yorktown and W-L are better than every high school in Loudoun.

I live in Loudoun and I laughed at that too. Even still, like every other school "ranking" list, this is simply a proxy for income, or in the case of TJ, an admissions test.

Really? You think APS schools are better than Loudon. How do you know this? My kids go to TJ and there are tons of incredibly talented kids from Loudon. Tons.

There aren’t “tons” of Loudoun kids at TJ.

Would trade our APS HS for Loudon if we could.

Feel like this underrates APS schools unfairly.

Why? Because WL isn't # 1 and YHS isn't #2? or vice versa?
Or because WHS didn't even make the list?
Or because HB didn't make the list, despite not being an independent high school and only being a "program?"

2 APS schools make the top 25 but the list clearly undervalues APS schools?

OP, it sounds like you haven't been paying much attention. Take a look at the US News list of best high schools for VA:

Arlington parents (particularly W-L parents) have an outsized perspective on the quality of their schools.

It just doesn't matter even one little bit. As long as your student is at a good (not failing) school and challenging themselves, then they'll be fine. AP and IB classes cover the same content, regardless of the school's ranking.

All of these are good high schools. There are lots of opportunities for even the strongest students at any of these options. And there will be a strong high achieving peer group at all of these schools. They're all excellent options.

100% - APS schools are VASTLY overrated. Including the school formerly known as Washington-Lee...

Too difficult for you to say Washington-Liberty, eh?

I can see why you'd have a problem with anything related to Arlington.

Yes, Arlington, as a whole is VASTLY overrated.
