I’m having good success losing weight with strict use of my fitness pal but I realize I’m not great at estimating calories for restaurant food.
Any guesses on how many calories in a restaurant lamb korma (no rice)? I was thinking maybe 1000 calories for the whole thing (which would be one huge meal or a normal dinner plus leftover lunch.) |
Rounding up to 1000 with restaurant food is probably safe, but my guess is it clocks in at around 600-800 calories if made super creamy and bigger portions than you'd eat at home.
It's not a bad dish to make and eat at home, but I assume restaurants dump in a bunch of (unnecessary) added oils. |
What’s the point? Your body doesn’t use calories |
As a rule successful weight loss maintainers count calories for their whole lives (this from the database of maintainers, who are the restively rare exceptions to the rule that weight loss will be regained). |
The only way I have been able to lose weight and maintain it for YEARS is by calorie counting. So PP, you are wrong. (NP) |
I had a fair amount of luck with MFP searching for whatever I was looking for and then picking something at the higher end of the calorie range. Sometimes you can find the exact restaurant, other times you can just get a ballpark of the quantity. |
Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good enough. Just pick a dish and keep it moving. |
+1 to just putting a high estimate and calling it good enough. |
