| We think we may get some FA but not a ton but worry that applying to see will affect chances. DC is okay with some loans if push came to shove. The Covid years really affected us so hate to be in the place. |
| it's really need blind for ED and RD, but not waitlist. every school is need aware for waitlist. |
Every School? How do you know? |
It's just an expression. |
This was an issue I was concerned about and couldn't get info on. Do we get a boost for being full pay? But we had a second kid coming along and we might get FA then. But some schools don't let you apply for FA later if you dont do it first year. Anyway, I called every school in the top 20 that were need blind and asked. There are 100-120 need blind schools so there may be some that do, but I think it's logical to assume if HYP are need aware for waitlist, then schools without that kind of endowment are too. But you're right .. maybe there are some? |
Thanks for the info. So, HYP confirmed that they were need aware for waitlist? |
| Yes but this was three years ago. Calling takes just a couple minutes. They know the answer to this. |

okay, wait.
So full-pay gets a boost at “need aware” schools, which is most schools. But if you don’t apply for FA in the first year, you might not be able to apply in future years, even if circumstances change? So…what if you apply knowing you likely won’t get FA, but just as a hedge for the future. Do schools see that you don’t qualify and consider you full pay? Or does “FP” mean you are committing to never asking for aid? Are these even questions one can ask of schools? |
| I would also love answers to these questions. |
|
Yes.
That is the answer to the question the OP posts. Need blind schools are need blind for admissions. |
