My son's team moved to EDP 1 this season, and there's a new substituation rule where once you come out, you can't go back in until the next half.
Is this new for all of EDP, or is it specific to EDP 1? |
That is for U15 and up. See rules handbook https://www.edpsoccer.com/_files/ugd/a96952_a192e0b43d494889be51af05e6823a84.pdf Substitutions - Section 4.C ▪ Matches in the 15U, 16U, 17U, 18U and 19U age groups will operate under the FIFA-7 players “per half” substitution system (limited substitution). Once replaced, players cannot re-enter the game during that half of play. Substitutions may be made at any stoppage of play with the approval of the referee. If a player is removed from the match and no substitute enters the match for the player (team plays short), the original player may reenter the match. Reentry shall be at a normal substitution point (with approval of the referee) or at any point during the match if the referee signals for the player’s reentry. ▪ Matches in the 13U and 14U age groups shall have unlimited substitutions. |
| That sucks. EDP is supposed to be a step down from ECNL and MLSnext. Why would the want to encourage coaches to shorten their benches? |
For regular EDP league, it will have unlimited substitutions. https://www.edpsoccer.com/_files/ugd/fb63b9_af353a23c356474e978ad97aa56733cc.pdf Substitutions - Section 4.C ▪ Matches shall have unlimited substitutions. |
This applies to USYS South Atlantic Conference, not regular EDP League |
Yup, my thought entirely. Was really disspointed to see the rule. |
|
Starters like this rule. Bench players hate this rule.
Some coaches sub out the starters especially midfielders (due lots of running) a few minutes before halftime to allow a little extra rest time before second half begins. |
Not familiar with the leagues technicalities. What does "a step down" mean exactly in this context? And are ECNL and MLS Next on the same level standing? |
No it doesn't suck. The game is more fun when the coaches don't keep subbing. Most coaches pretend not to know though. |
| In all of my DD's games the coaches seem to ignore the rule. It's a good thing they do based on the level. It isn't ECNL or MLS. |
Tell that to the kid on the bench. |
There’s ways around the bench situation. Either practice a lot more or move to a lower team/league. You can’t make rules just to please everyone. It’s no different in schools….the kids that get C’s and D’s on their report cards aren’t pleased either. |
That's just about the worst analogy I've ever heard, but I'll ignore that for now. Rules to please everyone? Who is unhappy about open subbing in EDP? What's the reasoning to allow fewer subs in any non-professional league? These are still developmental leagues. |
Something to consider. I understand that Rec leagues allow unlimited substitutions and equal playing time. |
This. It's a solution in search of a probelm that doesn't exist. Why not let the coaches decide who they want to sub at this level? |
