Yoga + strength enough?

Anonymous
I am someone who has a really hard time sticking to a regular exercise routine. I have never been a runner (although I enjoy walking very fast for miles), and I am genetically thin so don’t need exercise for weight loss/maintenance. But I am 41 and need to exercise for bone health, fitness, staying toned, and just feeling better. The thing I enjoy the most is classes at a local yoga studio (there is a range of classes available- power, hot, yoga + strength with weights etc). If I do this 4ish days per week and sometimes add in a 3 mile walk, is that enough for staying healthy?

I really want to stick to something, but between 3 kids, work, and generally low exercise motivation, I struggle.

The best exercise is the one you do. At your age, this is fine. As you get older, you probably should add some heavy weights to maintain muscle mass

I think that sounds terrific for where you are in life. On your off days, just try to do something no matter how minimal. Maybe even a quick body weight routine or 15-minute walk or yoga flow, just so you don’t any sedentary days.

Agree with PP re: adding heavy weights as you get older.

+1. Anything is better than nothing. Do what makes you happy and is easiest.
