Shutdown vacation ideas and deals

I'm thinking about just going away to our mountain house and watch the leaves change colors but would be open to seeing something new if it's a good deal. Anything pinging out there?

Seeing that I'm not getting a paycheck for the foreseeable future, I'm not spending a dime on vacations or getaways or other unnecessary outings that add up quickly.

Yeah, we won't have any money to spare considering we are dual military. Even though we expect to be paid eventually, we could easily have to dip into savings. Who knows how long this could last if it happens . . .

Plus, we'll be working as military.

Sorry that is a real bite in the pants...so much for the glib " thank you for your service" from glib phonies.

Come on, OP. I bet you’re not government and just a troll.

Absolutely disgusting that so many people will get a free vacation.

Please just re-read your post. Hopefully you’ll realized how clueless and douche-y it sounds.

No fed I know, including me, has enough money to take a vacation when we don't know when we will be paid. It's staycation all the way.

OP, you must have some family money, or be a really old DC area fed who is still working, to be able to afford a second house in the mountains.

When was the last time there was a legit shutdown?

I mean, it feels like a shutdown is threatened every year…but when was the last time it happened, and how long did it last?

First, the work doesn't go away. it's just that Feds aren't allowed to do it when there are no appropriations.
Second, who are you "disgusted" with? Hopefully it is Congress, specifically the House of Reps and the Freedom Caucus, and not employees themselves. Otherwise, you are a moron and that would be sad.
Third, ask yourself if you value a stable, consistent career, or would you like to be furloughed at the whim of others?

THINK before you judge, type, speak.

Not a free vacation, but yes, it is disgusting to shut down the government. Shame on you, Congress.

This is super weird and tacky to ask. I'll be working, since my subdivision within DOJ is self-funded. But I can imagine it is going to be super hard for many Federal families going without a paycheck.

2018/19 so not that long ago

Last time, I did some volunteer work at food and diaper banks. Some families were hit hard.
