Why are most daycares around here have a predominantly black staff?

Not a complaint, just an observation. I’m from another country and was wondering why most of the daycares/preschools I’ve toured or looked at online have black directors and a mostly black staff. Is it like this in other parts of the country too?

Edit the title: Why do*

Many high schools have programs where you can get certified as a day care teacher in high school.

Childcare workers across the nation are disproportionately women of color.

I'm in Virginia and this isn't true. Ours are mostly Hispanic or white.

It is a low-wage and low-skill job and those are often filled by women of color.

This. I have noticed that many places are either largely Black or largely Latino - rarely an equal mix.

It is a function partially of demographics--who lives close by--and also because childcare jobs are often filled through word-of-mouth within networks of friends and family.

Many times young mothers will get certified to teach. They can bring their children to the daycare and still get paid.

You are the one who is new here. African Americans are not we are foundational to this country, have been here since before its existence, have fought in its wars, have played a part in building it up economically and socially. We don’t have to explain why we exist or are in a particular place at a given time. Just because you don't understand, doesn't mean there is a problem. You may prefer to see white faces or faves that look like yours in the centers, possibly reflecting the values in your own country, but you are not in your country.
