Is Lake Forest College having a moment?

Jumped 12 spots in new USNWR and is #27 in WSJ. What's up with that?

Maybe some of those smart & rich suburban Chicago kids are taking a pass on snotty east coast liberal arts colleges?

Maybe because of the new pell grant metric? Lots of pell grants there.

Don't these rankings take into account how many kids actually graduate? For Lake Forest College, of the 356 students who entered in Fall 2015, only 260 had graduated by 2022 (6 years later) - that's not even 75%.

Lake Forest College still requires a COVID vaccine in fall 2023. Hard pass.

I think most colleges do.

Lake Forest have having a great week, Dartmouth having a bad week. Both the NYT and USNews called both these out in the last little bit

No, actually only around 80 schools still do, down from a thousand. Just six top-100 national universities still have a mandate, though current mandates are more common among LACs.

They also require MMR vaccine. Unacceptable!

My Alma mater! It’s a great school despite lacking the name recognition (which seems to be the only thing DCUM cares about).

If you don't mind, I'd love to hear more about your experience -- what you appreciated then, what you appreciate in retrospect, what the vibe was, what sort of student might like it. Thanks!

+1 from another curious poster. It offers so many pell grants. I wonder if that has changed the vibe.

Nice campus in a very upscale area.

A significant number of students enter Lake Forest College with guaranteed transfer options which may be why the graduation rate is below 75%.

What is a "guaranteed transfer option?"
