Haven't been there in many years as we're not big gamblers but decided to plan a trip there in early October for a particular concert/show. Much to our surprise, and chagrin, it appears there are now nightmares aplenty due to the upcoming Formula One Race in November.
The Strip is completely torn up, entry to many of the big hotels is limited or curtailed, popular sights like the Bellagio fountain show have stopped, they've torn out many living trees, sidewalks/walkways are blocked by grandstands being constructed, and there are massive traffic jams everywhere and the cost to go from the airport to a hotel may take an hour or more and cost a fortune. Many hotels are already putting up view-blocking screens across room windows due to F1 requirements, because they don't want people to see the race from their windows since they haven't coughed up the money to do so. I will admit our ignorance. We knew the F1 was coming to Vegas in November but had no idea there were such massive infrastructure changes happening up and down The Strip. And this is not a one-off. F1 will continue to be in Vegas for future races. Word of warning to others. Hope you learn from our mistakes and don't book anything the next few months, or any other months prior to when F1 will be in town. |
| You've got to make your complaints know to city hall, OP. The Strip needs to balance the needs of all its customers, manage its preparations for minimal disturbance and lower hotel prices while the F1 prep is underway. |
| Thanks for the heads up. We are going the week before the race. I didn’t even think about the construction! I don’t really care about the sights or views, but I hope it’s not too annoying to get around. |
| Yikes! +1, thanks for the heads up. We're going a couple of weeks after the race. Hope things will be somewhat back to normal. |
Based on local news reports, the workers/staff and A FEW local politicians have been complaining but the truth is ... it's always about the money. I guess F1 did a great sales pitch about how much money the race would bring to town, especially since the cheapest seats are well upwards of $1,000 each. Not to mention they sold the casinos on how much people would pay to stay there so the casinos are now charging room packages anywhere from $6,000 to $1mil. Who the heck pays that kind of money??? What I find most objectionable is they (resorts/casinos) are already closing down their pools and other amenities a month in advance, yet they are still charging resort fees. |
| OMG. We are going Columbus Day weekend and I had NO idea about any of this. Are there any resources to find out about specific closures/work arounds? |
I'd say keep updated by looking at local news reports. They've been covering the huge cyber attack at MGM/Caesars (check your credit card if you used it to book a room!) AND the problem with employees not being able to get to work, AND the massive traffic and infrastructure problems related to F1. |
Local news would have the latest and most in depth details. However, I’ve been following “Las Vegas Locally” on Twitter/X. It’s not really a news account, but following that account has given me a general flavor of the cyber attacks, issues with F1, etc. |
| Headed to Vegas next month for work and annoyed with F1 and all the hacking stuff. |
| I was there recently during a marathon. The strip was closed for 24 hours. Walking or ubering was a pain, Uber prices skyrocketed, getting to a dinner reservation took forever when it was only a couple of miles away. |

If you can migrate at this point OP, I’d suggest
Switching your stay to the Golden Nugget on Fremont Street. It’s the only hotel comparable to the luxury/Amenities of the strip, but it gets you out of all the issues you describe. If |

Really getting annoyed with the whole Vegas situation, as I imagine others are who were planning (or have already planned) a vacation there.
Yesterday, MGM posted something on SM that they were back up and running...yay! Not so much. There have been several vloggers who have noted the room reservation system is still down, and some have gone into the casinos and observed many slot machines are not operating. Why the hell would a large company like MGM lie about this stuff when they know they will be called out on it?!! |
| It keeps getting worse in Vegas. Now the culinary workers are set to go on strike! |
| Just returned from a stay at Vdara…purpose of trip was to see U2. Getting around was a bit of a pain but manageable. The concert at the Sphere was amazing—if you have even a small desire to see U2 I highly recommend. |
| I vaguely read about the race prep, and was glad we were in Las Vegas at the Bellagio in June before all that, and before the cyber attack. We had just come from Maui. Glad we were in Maui before the fires, too. Timing! |
