Just curious, but what is your take on this subject? Some people find that it's a sign of peace, others feel it's a slap in the face. But I'm interested to see what people in this area think about it. Is building a mosque at ground zero appropriate or just insensitive? |
Are you kidding me? I haven't heard of this. |
Yeah, that's the strange thing. There really hasn't been much news on it at all. I figured it would be controversial, and therefore would be all over the news. But it really hasn't... |
Why not? Jews, Muslims, Christians - don't we all worship the same Jesus? |
We worship the same God of Abraham, numbnuts! |
Hello no. Horrible idea and completely disrespectful. I have no idea why a Muslim would be okay with it either. |
I think your tone is extremely prejudicial, and very un-Christ-like. Whilst I am not officially involved in Church, I am extremely spiritual and have read the Bible many times. I never came across any God of Abraham, although Jesus certainly featured prominently. So I think you have made a mistake about this. But unlike you, I won't judge you for it, because that is not my way. |
Link to non-whackjob (i.e. no Beck, Hannity, etc...) source please? |
The local Community Board voted 29-1 in support of the Mosque. Given that local community boards normally oppose just about everything, I'd say this reflects pretty strong support for the project. The Constitution is pretty clear about freedom of religion and freedom of association, so I'm not sure on what grounds the project would be opposed. I understand that some people find it upsetting, but if we prevented people from doing anything that upset someone, we really wouldn't be able to do much.

I'm not sure the Post meets your "non-whackjob" standard, but this is a reasonably good article nonetheless: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/nyers_wage_jihad_vs_wtc_mosque_UgJiOBYEhrSOw4Q6hpvbQL |
Also, the mosque isn't exactly at Ground Zero. It is several blocks away. Not that it matters, as far as I'm concerned. But for those who do feel there is any reason it shouldn't be at Ground Zero... it's not at Ground Zero. |
Ah, okay, this makes more sense. In other words, a bunch of ignorant folks have been worked up into a frenzy of anger about a church several blocks away from the old WTC site. Got it.
Wonder if there are any Christian churches near the Oklahoma City Federal Building? 'Cause that would be outrageous. |
Also, going with the "no mosques at Ground Zero" line of thinking, does that mean there should be no churches/chapes in or near former concentration camps, given that most perpetrators of those crimes were Christian? |
Oh, come now, don't be ridiculous. Christians are just normal folks, whereas Musslemen are totally different. Apples and oranges. |
Not that I agree with it, but Jewish groups did protest a convent of nuns at Auscwitz. |
