15 days PTO earned throughout pay periods. Meaning, you do not start the year with 15 days.
We ask for a month's notice for vacation days and that one five-day block line up with one of our five-day blocks of vacation. We ask for as much notice as possible for sick days (like dr appts) but understand that isn't always possible. |
Do you have to take your vacation days lined up when your boss takes their vacation? Your nanny earns these days and should be able to take them when she chooses. |
It feels that way unless the family’s vacation time does not count against her PTO. |

I don't separate out the sick leave from annual leave. We did 3 weeks annual leave and most federal holidays. For appointments (my nanny was older and had more health issues), it was basically unlimited. She knew what days of the week I preferred her to make appts on and then I didn't mind her being out for a couple of hours. |
You're comparing apples and oranges. When my boss goes on vacation I still have to go to work. When a family leaves town the nanny is off. |
I work for an international corporation. The nanny works for one family. When my boss is on vacation I keep working. When I take my kids on vacation, unless we're paying the nanny to come with us, they are not working. Also, we just ask them to do this for one third of their vacation days, not all. They agreed to it. They could have negotiated. |

- same as an above poster We bank both and our nanny has been with us for years. She has probably 40 days of sick leave at this time, I just don't actually count it. (I do count vacation which she earns when she ends work with us). Our nanny also doesn't work when our kids aren't in town and she is paid for it., so she gets another ~3 weeks of leave time we choose. Hope that helps OP! |
Just stopped nanny but we gave two weeks vacation (her choice of days), Christmas-New Years week off, Federal Holidays and a limited schedule if we were away and didn’t have her come. We sometimes not aleays asked her to use time we were away to organize kids clothes or set up new areas in playroom, allowing her to set schedule. Re sick days-I don’t know if we ever really kept count-just had her not cone when she was sick but paid her. (We also paid her for probably 3 months during covid though we didn’t have her come. |

We have one week our choice and one week theirs. That being said, we made it clear that we are flexible but really are hoping that for the one week our choice we can all coordinate on a time that works well for both parties. Our nanny’s choice we wouldn’t expect that courtesy. |
