| Inspired by the Potomac thread. How long is your kid's commute to school and what grade are they in? |
| K and 2nd - 5 minutes. It's amazing. |
| 1st grade - about a 5-10 minute drive. It's great! |
|
K-8 is 5 minutes. It’s amazing and I love how many kids we see walking to school along the way. Exceptionally strong community.
High school is 20 minutes in the morning. 30-45 on the at home if you catch bad timing (which we usually do). It’s fine. Kids come from all over the DMV. |
| I'm jealous. We don't have any schools that would be a 5 - 10 minute drive. In traffic, even our local public school would likely be 10-15. For private we're probably looking at 20 minutes for most of them. |
| 30 min morning, 45 afternoon |
|
K-8 10 minutes each way.
It’s part of the reason we chose the school. I’m not spending 1-2 hours a day in the car driving to and from school. |
| HS. 30 mins |
| 18 minutes |
| 6th grade at a PK-8. 8 minute drive in the morning and 30 minute walk home in the afternoon. |
| From 5-8 our commute was about 7-10 minutes. Just starting at a new school for 9th and it’s 15-25 depending on traffic. For early elementary we had a commute of about 45 minutes, and although the school was near where I was working at the time, by the time we left I’d moved offices and it was horrendous. Baring certain special needs situations, I don’t think any school is worth more than 30 minutes in a regular basis. |
| 20 mins during morning rush hour. 15 minutes in the afternoon. (Would be 20-25 minutes during evening rush). Private school. |
I agree with this. We are applying out right now and my husband and I agreed that we would not enroll anywhere that exceeded a 20sh minute drive. It is such a time suck for everyone. It’s not worth it. |
| 15 minutes during rush hours. 5 minutes otherwise. K and 3rd grade. |
| 6-12 minutes depending on traffic. 10th, 6th and 1st. |
