Senior Year Grades..Do they matter for Admission?

Since most RD applications are due by end December (I think?), how/when do senior year grades matter? Are RD applications required to submit first semester grades once they come in (late January at our school)?

Yes for RD it matters. They typically send them after the semester and that’s before an RD decision is made

RD apps require first semester senior year grades via the Mid Year Report sent in January.

Some colleges will ask for all grades, til the end of the school year. Not all, but some do.

depends which schools. for some, they don't consider them at all.

Fall grades can impact regular decisions. Final grades need to be submitted but if you don’t fail classes you are usually OK.

Some schools have specific limitations, for the UCs, for example, I think you cannot get more than two Cs in your senior year or they will rescind your acceptance. That said, the UCs only look at sophomore and junior year grades and only for specific courses.

If your student is applying broadly, fall semester grades matter. And in the case of applicants focusing on an "upward trajectory" they can matter a lot.

Yes for the first semester for most institutions. Some universities ask to see second semester grades as well, but in that case, they do make allowances for senioritis.

I've heard of colleges rescinding offers if the student slacks off senior year, but I don't know how common it is.

Many schools require first quarter reports for ED admissions. Counselors are supposed to send them.

For EA it doesn’t matter. If you’re deferred to RD then you’ll need to submit mid year grades. For most schools you’d have to be seriously failing for your offer to rescinded. The final grades aren’t sent till mid summer

Yes. You can see in Common App. Under College Information, Recommendations, there is a list where you will see "Mid Year Report Required."
