Mexico City, Cabo, Cozumel, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, etc
VS Paris, London, Rome, Amsterdam, Barcelona, etc Which did your family enjoy visiting the most? I know it’s a bit apples to oranges but for planning purposes, I’m just curious. |
| Depends on age and season. |
| Mexico without a doubt |

Mine wants to go to Northern Europe over Key West for Christmas. He is and he said he likes cold.
We are going to Christmas market, will learn how to ride a horse, and ski in ten days. We have overdone beaches. He is ready for more active vacation. |
+1 |
| My 8 year old has liked them all. But she's 8, she is just happy to buy some magnets anywhere we are, and get unlimited iPad time on the plane. |
Mexico for sure, but my dh won't let us travel to there anymore due to the travel advisories
Some of my favorite trips as a kid were in Mexico. |
| Haven't taken the kids to Europe, but I would bet my kids would prefer Mexico/a beach over touring a city. If we take them to Europe it would be to hike the Dolomites, not visit the cities. |
|
My kids prefer beaches and water sports.
But they don’t like Mexico…because the Caribbean is far better in terms of beaches, water, vibe, etc. Plus, you can drink the water. We are trying the Mediterranean and Adriatic next, but I’m worried they won’t enjoy as much as the Caribbean. Caribbean is a vacation. Relaxing. Europe is a trip. Sightseeing. |
| DS is 10 and would choose Europe. Choice may be harder if was between the Caribbean and Europe though |
What? The State department says travel to Cancun is as safe as it gets and to exercise increased caution in Western Europe. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/mexico-travel-advisory.html https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/france-travel-advisory.html https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/UnitedKingdom.html |
Anytime you go somewhere not for work or family is a vacation to me. I don’t see the difference. |
| Beach/outdoor activities > exploring cities with kids. Though Mexico City is amazing for kids and has fabulous kid-friendly museums, as long as your kids like museums and speak Spanish. But I’d save the major European cities until they’re teens. So much more fun stuff for kids in Mexico. |
As an adult, I agree with you. But my kids are huge travelers and get bored of sightseeing after a few days. The highlights of trips for them are always the outdoor adventure activities. We do more ziplining, rafting, hiking, snorkeling than relaxing on the beach. |
I see the difference. On a beach in Mexico, you can relax. A vacation in Paris is go-go-go, and takes almost as much energy (if not more), than work. I don't feel rested after traveling in Europe. I do usually prefer it, though. But yeah, there is a big difference. |
