Friend is using edibles and has memory loss problems.

Anonymous
I have a friend who seems to be having a decent amount of memory loss, she does use edibles quite a bit I'm thinking since she is younger this might be the cause. She is forgetting a ton of things we have talked about and its starting to effect our relationship as in I'm getting very tried of things being forgotten or having to remind her over and over again. It also starting to feel like she doesn't care since she doesn't remember. I also don't feel too comfortable bringing this up because I don't use edibles and don't want to to seem like I'm coming at her for it. I don't want to just write her off but bringing this up seems very risky to me, any suggestions welcome here.

She's a drug user, and while you don't say either way, perhaps not for a legitimate medicinal rather than recreational purpose. If so, it's a personality and character flaw and only you can decide if it's tolerable in her.

How often is she using them? Age?

She's using them for recreational purpose in a state where it's not legal yet.

She says a few times a week, she's late 30's. Maybe it's more than what she says, I don't know.

MYOB - it doesn't sound like you like this person.

you dont have to be friends with this person if you dont want to ... but they get to live their own life and make their own choices without your judgement

I feel you on the challenge with this. I have a friend like this and it’s annoying - she never remembers what we talk about, is frequently spaced out, and can’t hold really hold a conversation as she’s not really able to pay attention. I recently saw her wander away from another friend mid-sentence! I am close enough that I’m going to share my concerns with her - she may not realize it’s as bad as it is, maybe thinks it’s just taking the edge off. But anyway just offering understanding- same boat here.

What post did you read because op doesn't sound judgemental at all. She doesn't know how to address the issue..I think you're projecting onto yourself here lol.

The MYOB posters are so tired. OP’s concerns have nothing to do with MYOB. Stupid advice.

Using a couple of times a week is not going to cause memory issues. I take an edible five nights a week to help sleep, without them. My memory would be significantly worse from the lack of sleep.

I think it's stupid advice to get involved in your friend's health when they didn't ask you to.

This. Is she high when you hang out? Because that’s what is implied. Maybe something else is going on and she’s using edibles to cope with other problems. But I doubt occasional use of edibles is affecting someone’s memory and demeanor to the point where it’s affecting a friendship unless they’re getting high right before hanging out every time they see you.

I'm not friends with anyone who uses drugs.

I doubt the edible use you describe is causing the severity of her issues. How long has this been going on? I would be worried that something rise is going on, health-wise. This is not even close to normal memory loss for her age.
