Your favorite special occasion restaurant?

Anonymous
Looking for ideas for a special occasion restaurant, ideally in DC, but willing to travel to MD or VA.
Criteria,
- not a steakhouse or italian with heavy pasta menu
- high quality food with lighter, smaller dishes, can be any ethnicity
- preferably not prix fixe
- beautiful setting / stylish restaurant that feels special

Typically, we go to Nobu for special occasions, but we have 2 special occasions within a few weeks of each other, so trying to mix it up.

Thanks!

We just went there for our anniversary. It was amazing. Make sure you get an inside table.

Charleston in Baltimore if you want to go somewhere outside of DC. Exceptional service and exceptional food.

Why not price-fixe menu? Restaurants are very accommodating of allergies and preferences, asking because some of my favorite special event restaurants are all prix-fixe menus

Minibar
Rose’s Luxury
Pineapple and Pearl

Came here to say Del Mar as well.

The Dabney. Haven't been there since they moved to prix fixe, but would still be my first choice.

The setting might feel more casual than some of the other suggestions, but the food is phenomenal. The bigger thing for me, though, is that the service is above and beyond. They make a lot of extra effort and it's clear their staff are all prepped on who is coming in with reservations (who are first time, who are repeat guests, whose celebrating an anniversary, if repeat guests they know if you like more or less attention, etc.). Everything is so smooth, everyone is kind and welcoming. I know if we go there that we'll walk away feeling really good, and having had a delicious, perfectly prepped meal.

But if you want to dress up a bit more, I might go with Minibar or Del Mar. Minibar is not for me because I'm not as into the food science stuff, but YMMV.

We recently went to 2941 in Fairfax. Loved it and I think it checks a lot of your boxes.

L'Auberge Chez Francois. I especially enjoy eating in the brasserie downstairs.
