Where are people’s manners?

Our family and another family rented a house together for a weekend. We invited a third family to come one day just during the day.

They arrive. Their kids are starving as they didn’t feed them lunch and didn’t bring them snacks. The kids eat literally ALL the snacks we had in the house that we brought for the whole weekend. Their dog is starving and they didn’t bring any food for the dog.

The kids take our floaties without asking. They go through our fridge, through the cabinets.

Then while we are all seating and talking after dinner the woman WITHOUT ASKING or telling me takes her DD to our bedroom and puts her on our bed and turns the TV on and lets her use my beach towel she found in my closet.

Do people have no personal space and personal property concepts anymore?

You invited guests and had no food? What did you think they were going to eat? Was it explicitly BYOF?

Why didn't you speak up?

Cool story. I am happy for you or sorry that happened.

We invited them for dinner only. I told them to bring snacks for their kids, but they didn’t.

I was fully prepared to be outraged. I’m not.

And say what?

The conversation went like this:
DH: I couldn’t find DD in the house.
Me: Where is she?
DW: She’s in your bedroom. I knew you would not mind.
Me: Oh

You invited them to come one day during the day but only for dinner? That makes no sense.

The only rude thing is helping themselves to your bed.

Are your kids like this too? Ill mannered? And you feel entitled to everything in a house you were invited to?

They showed up after lunch.

I made it clear we were sharing only dinner. I wasn’t going to cook them breakfast and lunch.

Kids eat afternoon snacks. They don't go from lunch to dinner without a snack.

First of all, these are older kids, age 11 and 14 and not toddlers and they can go without snacks.

Second of all, I told the parents to bring snacks and they didn’t’. These two kids literally ate every snack we had. Like locusts.

You sound like a terrible host. Please list all of the snacks they ate. Totally believable.

Did the dog eat any of the snacks? How did you establish the hunger level of the dog?

It’s done now. Let it go.
