Are New Car Prices Going Down in the DMV?

Anonymous
We gave up shopping for a new car last year because of the deal mark up, thousands over MSRP at dealers around the DMV. Has anyone been car shopping recently? and how do the prices look? I don't even want to start looking at cars again if the prices are ridiculous.

I’ve noticed fewer dealer markups, but some are still there. Still feels like trying to get a Manhattan apartment — a bit Hunger Games-ish.

Still mark up on Toyotas, Hondas, and Kia for the models I looked at minivans and suvs

Good news is markups are lower. Bad news is MSRPs are higher.

Depends on what kind of car you’re looking for. Certain Hondas and Toyotas are still hard to find.

We managed to get a 2023 CRV for below MSRP (model years turning over plus end of the month). We had to drive out to Fredericksburg, VA though.

Hyundai giving rebates so below MSRP

We've been trying to buy a Chevy Bolt in the DMV and they are trying to add 4k in market adjustments. We got them down to 2k but they wouldn't budge below that so we walked.

We have been looking closely at the new Toyota Grand Highlander and several dealers within 20 miles are marking the Hybrid Max version of that crossover up by $8-10K!!!! I know they are new so supply and demand is an issue as production is still ramping up, but this is so brazen that I literally won't use these dealers even if the prices come down close to MSRP.

My experience two months ago was that close in dealers were still selling over MSRP. We actually drove to WV and it was well worth it. My advice would be look at dealers further out.

+1. I found a couple that will do MSRP, but I will have to drive 2-2.5 hrs away. From my POV, saving $5K+ is well worth that time.

The Morgantown Toyota dealer we used said they have lots of people who do this. Apparently there is a quick flight from Nova to Morgantown and they’ll pick you up. Several thousand for an afternoon of my time doing an easy and pretty drive is well worth it.
Screw off Bethesda dealers.

I’m in California and have been waiting 2 years to buy a Prius. My car is from 2008. Really hope things improve soon! Plan was to bug used, but they’re pretty much the same price as new.
