| Do belt bags and slings look dated and the trend is over or are they a new classic style? |
| Not currently dated but not going to "classic" either, IMO. They will fade out, but they were going strong all summer. |
| I think the sling bag will be around for a while, especially while traveling. They're incredibly convenient and utilitarian, and can be really stylish. More importantly you're a lot less likely to be a victim of crime/stealing. |
| Dated. Trend will be dead soon. |
| I am old enough to remember the fanny pack. The sling bag is basically the same thing worn as a cross body. I don’t hate either of them because they can be useful. |

Six months and this trend will be as dead as dead can be.
We live in SW Florida, which as i've said on here before, is like a place that exists outside of normal fashion trends. Belt bags aren't a thing here. (I'm not trying to say Florida is a beacon of following trends - i'm just offering this up to explain that i'm living in a blank slate of knowing trends) Every time i go to NY and other big cities in the NE, the belt bags are comical. I started pointing them out to DH and the excessiveness of it is overwhelming. So yeah, definitely not classic, definitely just a thing people are doing to be cool, and there is no way you can try and argue they are "highly functional". They're just not, relative to other existing types of classic bags. You're just trying to justify the absurd trend. And yes, like another poster, i remember 1990 fanny packs being an intense rage for 3 years. The pendulum swung so far back off that one, that fanny packs were literally the thing that people pointed to for 25 years as "wow we do really dumb things to be trendy". |
At the risk of being pointed out and mocked to your DH, the belt bag thing is just a thing and nothing to get so invested in - but I’m glad it makes you feel better about yourself. I hated the look but I’ve been using a belt bag to hold my phone while walking the dogs for years. I decided to wear it as a crossbody sling ala the trend and I loved it. The diagonal line it creates is much more flattering that wearing it around the waist; it doesn’t flop when it is across the chest the way it does when it is around the waist; it is far more accessible when worn across the chest. I was sold. so I bought a quilted version from amazon for $15. And now I’m so sad that here on DCUM I am learning that Floridians are laughing at me. But your mind-reading ability is truly amazing. |
| I think it will be dead soon mainly because it's a summer look and it's not going to work over a coat. It will die this winter. |
She looks like she's figured it out and looks pretty good
It's so utiliarian because it holds things close to the body and accessible. It might be here to stay with different designs and styling obviously |
|
In my opinion, unless the rest of you is styled like a model with designer bits, this trend is best kept to wearing with athletic gear. |
|
Totally utilitarian.
But also cringey and fated to die soon. |
|
Sorry folks, it's here to stay.
A tiny cross body bag with thick strap is just so utilitarian. I was set against this trend, but I have to admit it's the perfect size for phone credit card and keys. |
| Wish it would stay, but it's going to die very soon. |
It's so bulky. I think that would terrible on a non-model. |
| sorry but I love them - especially when traveling/sightseeing. so convenient. |
