| Perhaps if DC actually does active truancy patrols... |
| Are you under the impression that all crimes are committed by minors? |
No, but a good chunk of them are in DC. |
| Crime typically goes up in the summer and drops in the fall/winter, so probably |
| Crime in schools, more fentanyl ODs, and more delinquency in general will be in schools. |
| I have not seen a truancy van since pre-cv. Truancy rates are super high. I'm not sure it will impact daytime crime as much as it used to. Hope someone gets these kids back in school and on a good path so they have better future options. |
Truancy rates are horrible and impact the city in multiple ways - lower test scores, higher crime, bleak long term outlook for these kids. The city needs to step up accountability for parents whose kids are not showing up for school. https://osse.dc.gov/dcschoolreportcard/attendance 63.65% of DC highschool kids are chronically absent! |
The vast majority of crimes in DC are committed by adults: https://twitter.com/dccrimefacts/status/1689065296907075584 |
Sure, that's overall, but in some cases it's juveniles committing the majority of crimes. Majority of our carjackings are juvenile. Not sure how it breaks out by specific crime, but we know car thefts are up >100% within one year and it's majority kids committing that crime. |
That's discounting that juvenile violent crime is up. This is why DC enacted a youth curfew recently and PG county did awhile ago. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/violent-crimes-involving-young-suspects-on-rise-in-dc/3243141/ |
That also correlates with summer visitors for the museums and monuments. I blame tourists for the crime rate. |
| Not at Bradlee.... |
| Most young criminals will be busy getting their homework done on time and cramming for tests. So should see a good dip in crime. |
| These kids need structure |
+1 Structure, mentoring, opportunities to volunteer/help others, praise for effort, and consequences for breaking laws. |
