Can we please ditch the requirements for having LinkedIn?

You have our resumes, what other info do you need? Why is LI ‘required’ by so many HR people, and why is it a ‘red flag’ if you don’t have a profile? LI is now extraordinarily invasive. There is too much info that needs to be put out there that makes it easy for scammers to steal your identity or try to phish/social engineer you or your bank. It’s also crazy how many permissions LI now asks for. Can we get rid of this platform already? It’s probably worse than Facebook and ruins everyone’s privacy.

Because either you are overemployed with multiple jobs or a kook.

Just tell them you don't do social media. Stop freaking out.

jeez, don't use the app. just have a passive network and put industry and education and really short job descriptions. you don't have to be exhaustive. my last several employers are "----".

Certain professions do not need any online profile as candidates just apply directly to employers in that field if seeking a change.

However, good for finding fellow alumni at specific companies.

Required? Who requires it?

HR shouldn't want you on LinkedIn. It makes it easy for other companies to identify and poach you!

Have you seen the HR people responding here over the years? They consider it a ‘red flag’ to not have a LI profile.

I have a LI profile but it's out of date. I do find it obnoxious that some people consider it required. It reflects laziness by HR people -- they think if they can find an LI profile, they've adequately vetted a candidate. But it's really easy to create a nice, shiny LI profile while lying and covering up skeletons. It's not like LI verifies anything.

Agree. It's a ridiculous requirement and in no way is related to a person's suitability for a position, unless the position is related to social media in some way.

+1 I've never heard of this being a requirement.

You don't need to grant any permissions to create a profile. You can create an account on the website, but in your HR-mandated info, and while you are there, reach out to a recruiter for a better company.
