Anyone here go on birth control for peri?

And if so did it help?
GYN recommended it for me to help with swelling/ sore boobs and weight gain that I cannot seem to address. curious what others experiences are.

Yes I tried it for peri and it backfired. Breasts were even more sore, and within 6 months I developed a fibroidadenoma and needed a core needle biopsy. Yes it did decrease bleeding amount which was one of my major issues. I discontinued.

Causes blood clots in older women.

It is amazing. I am on low dose and my figure is back, I sleep at night and I'm less anxious. Try it.

Not exactly the same thing, but I have a Mirena IUD- I really think the low dose progesterone is helping me with perimenopause… I’ll be 48 in a few months and love having no periods, some light spotting every couple months.

What is the name of your medication?

I asked about it, but my gyn suggested estradiol and progesterone in the MHT form instead of birth control. It’s been good. Took a few months to get the dosing optimal, but I’m very happy now.

I’m glad, as I ended up being depressed on birth control in my twenties, but was pretty desperate for relief so was willing to try again. Haven’t had any depressive symptoms in the MHT.

Stop being alarmist. If she’s in peri she’s not older. Clearly if her doc suggested it, she’ll be fine. I assume she’s a non-smoker.

What about of estradiol and progesterone did you end up on?

Yes, an it ended up giving me my period for almost 3 months straight so I gave up.

Yes I just started LoEstrin (?spelling). So far it’s evened out severe mood swings and significantly decreased the clotting and heaviness in my periods. 3 months in and I have a follow up soon to check blood pressure, etc.

Like a Pp I got mirena at 51 for heavy periods and anemia. I didn’t and still don’t have any other symptoms of menopause except insomnia . I also don’t really get a period anymore and I dont know how much is mirena and how much is menopause. I get a day of spotting every once in a while. I’ll have to remove it in a few years at which point hopefully I’ll be done with it all.

Yes, I went back on birth control, and most of my symptoms went away entirely.

Yes. I was and I never had a single menopause symptom. Ever.
