Daughter age 11 is in a lot of pain from what could be a hip flexor strain. Any tips on what to do. I have her resting this week, but she is anxious to get back to playing. Should we see an ortho? PT? Trainer? I have had the injury and unfortunately, rest seemed to be the best fix. Then once she is pain-free she needs to work on strengthening to prevent the injury again.
It was the result of a hit while kicking the ball. |
| When my DS had hip issues he went to PT—combination of regular PT and dry needling. |
| Rest now and PT or trainer/ exercise to help prevent it from likely happening again would be best bet. |
Dry needling +1. Worked like a charm for my DC's hip flexor. |
| All of that above and lots of stretching. Proper warmup before playing. |
| I would go to see a doc/ortho for X-rays to be sure. My son had a hip issue from running track and it turned out to be a hip avulsion fracture. My brother had the same thing as a teen from playing soccer. I guess it’s common for teenage boys. It’s not serious, just takes some time to heal and is very painful. |
| It does take time and you may need to rest it for more than a week. Sorry. |
If there’s an orthopedic urgent care near you that’s a good way to get seen quickly—the one near us will consult with the doctors upstairs if needed and get you on quickly for follow-up appointments. |
| If the injury is do to trauma (a hit), then I think you should just rest until it heals. It should be fine. If you are saying it's from overuse or even a growth plate issue, then I think your best bet is to see an ortho. |
