You know what I mean- casual places in the coastal Carolinas that serve baskets of fried shrimp and fries, fried flounder sandwich, blackened tuna, hush puppies, cole slaw, real BBQ, etc
Why do those places not exist in DC? |
| Like Horace and Dickies? |
No. That's a soul food place that sells seafood. |
| You’re asking why there aren’t beachy seafood restaurants in Washington DC? |
| One is going to open where Thirsty Bernie's was in Arlington, but I don't know exactly when.https://www.arlnow.com/2023/08/01/seafood-restaurant-looking-to-open-next-month-in-thirsty-bernies-former-home/ |
Beachy isn't really accurate. There are seafood place like this all over eastern NC, much further inland than DC is. |
Its not beachy. They're looking for a sit-down restaurant that serves southern cuisine irrespective of the topic environment. Georgia Browns |

Blue Ridge Seafood in Gainesville has that beachy vibe. It's on Lee Highway, off I-66. https://www.blueridgeseafood.com/

| We’re too far north, we have crab places instead. Like Captain Pell’s in Fairfax or Jerry’s in Bowie. |
You don’t go that far out of DC for that kind of seafood vibe The Fish Market in Alexandria Clare and Don’s in Arlington Skippers in Deale Rayon’ Reef in Frederick Captain Pat’s in Drayden Not totally the same but scratch the same itch |
| That’s Ragin’ Reef above |
| They used to. Hogates, Flagship, Phillips, Bish Thompson’s, O'Donnell's, Crisfield’s…. and the more casual Chesapeake Seafood House, among others. |

Wharf in old town
Clare and Dons |
Crisfield’s is still around, as is Jerry’s Seafood in Bowie, and at least 2 Horace and Dickey’s locations. |
