| What do your middle schoolers have for breakfast? FCPS starts so early and my teens will barely make it out the door on time without breakfast. Are protein shakes a terrible idea as a breakfast replacement? Which are the healthier ones? |
| yogurt and fruit. |
| What they really end up eating is cheerios most of the time. I have bought the scrambler microwavable meals that have onion potatoes and meat and you just scramble in an egg. They get bored of that quickly. |
| PB toast and a banana. |
| DS had lunch so early in middle school he was ok without eating. On the days he did it, it was a waffle, a granola bar, banana nut bread, stuff like that. |
| Nothing. Not hungry that early in the am. |

Our go-to early morning breakfasts:
Yogurt parfait Avocado toast (just spread pre-made guac on toast) with an egg on top We make omelettes once a week and batch them and put them in the fridge, so they can be warmed up in the microwave in the AM Protein Waffles Frozen egg and waffle sandwiches (I found them at Giant, and have one kid who loves them) |

For a while we were doing smoothies which were yogurt fruit milk and chi seeds. That’s healthy and fast for them to drink while headed out the door or getting ready.
But mine usually are up early enough to sit for toast, yogurt, fruit. Or cereal and fruit. They generally don’t want anything heavy like eggs but somethings I can get them to eat mini quiche or egg strata or something if we have leftovers. Costco sells breakfast flautas I’ve been wanting to get them to try. |
| We pre cooked rice, microwaved it and topped it with scrambled egg and soy sauce. |
| Ramen noodles. Sad but true. |
| Mine drinks protein shakes. He’s not hungry in the morning, or really during the day. Big appetite for dinner |
| Instead of protein shakes - how about Instant Breakfast. It's been around forever. It's been evaluated forever and not some new product just on the market. Teenage boys have to be careful. They will get a lot of advice about powders, supplements. |
+1 My kid prefers sleep over breakfast time especially since he's not even hungry that early. She has a bunch of non perishables snacks (granola bars, trail mix, pretzels) stashed in her backpack in case she does get hungry once at school and before lunch. |

Steel cut oatmeal with nuts/fruit in it and a glass of Kefir yogurt drink.
Standard for everyone in our family. Occasionally, the boys (now HS) will have eggs or pancakes if time or leftover or a frozen waffle with fruit. But, always a glass of milk or yogurt kefir drink too. But, most of the time they prefer to sleep and just get the oatmeal the parents are eating too. They eat big early dinners and school provides lunch (private school so better options than public). |

Protein bar and banana in the car usually.
Sometimes those individual salami and cheese packets from Costco refrigerator section A muffin or a bagel with cream cheese if we have. Same deal here- extremely early start. Mine eats in the car. I try to include some protein whenever possible but struggle just to get DS out of bed and out the door. I also pack extra stuff in his lunch that he can grab between classes if he gets hungry or didn’t really eat. I haaate the early start. |
