She is 5'4", weighs 120 pounds, fully developed breasts, looooots of pubic hair, but no period. All her friends have it already. I keep telling her how lucky she is that she hasn't gotten it yet but maybe this is unusually late? People assume she's in high school when they first meet her.
Anyone else with daughters showing all the outward signs but still no period? |
| So she’s 12! Stop panicking, periods are all over the place. My poor kid got hers right before her 10th birthday. Your kid is lucky. |
I already said I think she's lucky.
I asked if other have similar age girls who are very "grownup" looking with no period yet. -OP |
It seems unusual to have all those other signs of the onset of puberty but no period. Has her pediatrician brought up seeing an endocrinologist? |
| What does the pediatrician say? There is a standard timeline, and they will be able to tell you what the next steps are, if she's out of range of normal development. They might do hormone bloodwork, for instance. |
+1 my 15 yr old DD doesn't have her period yet. 105 lbs 5'4" from a family of late bloomers. But, she's not as physically advanced as OP's DD, so I'd ask the pediatrician. |
| I have a same aged girl who hasn’t gotten hers but she is also nowhere near as far along as your child. I’d ask the pediatrician at the next appointment. For context my child is 5’2”, 100 lbs, almost no breast development, and very little pubic hair. If she doesn’t fall off her growth chart, her trajectory had been 5’6”ish, so she hasn’t hit her height yet unless something drastically changed since her last physical. |
| Lucky her! I can't image why any girl would be eager to start it. |
I'm a PP with a 15 yr old who hasn't started it yet. That's how she feels... lucky. Some of her friends started in ES. DD is probably close to starting.. there's some spotting, and she's been getting cramps in her lower abdomen every several weeks. I told her she will probably start soon, and she got upset.. "Whhhhyyyyyyyy". That was her response. |

I’d ask ped at her upcoming 13yo appt. Seems likely it will happen soon, based on what you have said.
Any chance she could already have it, and be hiding it from you? Just throwing that out there. I did that when I was her age- I felt embarrassed for whatever reason, and was afraid my mom would make a big deal out of it. |
I was actually embarrassed when 12 year olds talked about their periods and I was 14 and hadn’t got it yet. My sisters and mother had the start of periods between 14 and 16 years old. So I get feeling like you’re the only one. |
no chance. we are super close. she tells me everything. -OP |
| Why are you all checking out your daughters’ pubic hair? Gross. |
how is that gross? we have a very close relationship and she has zero problems being naked in front of me. she's 12. that's very healthy. sorry you don't have that kind of relationship with your daughter. I feel bad for you. -OP |
+1 I would ask her pediatrician about it, not because she's 12/13, but because she has all these other signs of puberty and hasn't had her period. |
