My husband loves good food and I was thinking of Gold Belly as a birthday gift, where he could choose a meal of his choosing from the affiliated chef/restaurants. Has anyone used this service? What was your experience? And if you used it, what did you get? an entire meal from one restaurant? Food from multiple restaurants? Thanks!

I have. Once. I got empanadas from a restaurant in NY. They were good. The service was good.... they came frozen and were packed well.
I may order more if I see something I really like. |
Yes - we ordered from a favorite out of town restaurant before it closed, and we had New Year’s Eve dinner from Commander’s Palace last year. Loved it and will order again.
Yes! We've ordered a couple of things and they were great.
I order monthly from a rotating few NYC restaurants and everything has always been great!
Yes, I've used it to send food gifts, especiallyice cream. I had one bad experience, when seafood was delayed and arrived extremely spoiled: vendor replaced it, but it was gross for recipient to deal with.
I’ve used it. It’s ok. Just be sure you can’t get the item elsewhere cheaper first. I love it for truly unique restaurant buys but once they were selling baked goods that I could get at Wegmans. Same exact item and brand, just much more expensive.
Paying extra is the point. Like buying a diamond. |
I’ve sent my Arizona parents Maryland crab cakes and soup the last couple years at Christmas and they’ve been really happy with them (unless my mom is just saying that to be nice).
I regularly order bagels from NYC through them. Someone ordered me pastries from an Italian bakery through them that were great. Only good experiences.
Have used it many times for both meals and dessert items. We had one bad experience with delayed shipping where the birthday cake showed up late and had gone bad, but that’s on the shipping service. I still recommend! Especially for hard-to-get items - as PP mentioned, if you can find the food locally you’ll see it’s upcharged on Goldbelly for the convenience factor.
Yes, it is great. The DMV has a high % of transplants so it is nice to send people "A taste of home" wherever that may be.
We have used them to order brisket from Texas and lox and bagels from NY. We have only had good experiences. It will be expensive because they ship using overnight FedEx.
I send my parents things from Russ and Daughters a few times a year and they love it. It’s a stupid amount of money for smoked fish and bagels, but it’s the same amount I’d spend on any gift for them and for people who genuinely don’t need anything it’s a great option.
For most vendors selling on gold belly it’s the only way they ship. Regularly order muffulettas from central grocery in New Orleans. Never disappointed!
