Gilman and the case

Anonymous
I have a son who graduated from Gilman and it was a great experience.

He never had Mr. Bendann as a teacher or a coach, but went on at least one school trip where Mr. Bendann was one of the teachers leading it. I always had a positive impression of Mr. Bendann. That said, I believe he’s guilty and I believe he molested numerous boys. I don’t think a boy would have made up the charge, for any reason. And I believe people have to be ready to come forward, and that there are other boys who are not yet.

I think the legal team/ Mr. Kobe Flowers took a waiting approach to see if more victims would come forward. When they didn’t, Mr. Bendann started giving press releases to The Baltimore Banner (which doesn’t have a vehicle for reader comments, so without any pushback) and declaring his innocence. If he is innocent, he is the victim of a truly terrible smear. I don’t think he’s innocent.

I have gone back and forth on whether there is any reason to have written this or to post it. I wound up deciding to post it, in the hope that it gives some reassurance to the boy who brought the charge. In case he ever reads this, know that I believe you and I am impressed by your courage. I’m rooting for you.

A number of kids who would have been in this year’s graduating class left after middle school. I have to believe that this issue played a role. Certainly the kids all seem to believe it happened, which is telling.

At least Gilman didn’t try to cover up their case like WIS

That isn’t true.

What happened at WIS?

More than average left for boarding school. And younger classes saw kids leaving for Loyola blakefield - and not for academic reasons.

What happened at WIS?

Everyone willing to criticize Gilman’s handling of this situation should find out what happened at WIS. Gilman could’ve taken a similar approach, chose not to, and is being punished for not doing everything possible to cover it up

Innocent until proven guilty.

What makes you think Gilman didn’t try to cover it up?

For one, all of the discussions being left on this board with all the WIS discussions, even on the Gilman thread being taken down. I’ll be surprised if these comments stay up

There IS such a thing as libel and slander. So I’d be careful. This is something I’d let be handled by the proper authorities and not dissect on the internet.

It’s not libel and slander to leave up that Feds were on campus.

Didn’t a peer teacher show up in court to support the accused child predator?

Nope. I’m just saying this: you know nothing. You weren’t a victim. Right? And no one has come to you claiming to be a victim. Right? So why gossip about it? Do you really think that helps? Or are you just catty and bored?

There are real people and real lives involved on all sided here. Your titillation with the whole thing isn’t very nice.

Should Gilman do the same? End all internet discussion and leave to be handled by authorities?
