| My 7 year old asked to use mouthwash (after brushing teeth). Any downsides to floride mouthwash for a kid? She can be trusted to spit it out. |
| It’s fine according to our dentist. He mentioned that it’s better to use in the morning vs evening though, since toothpaste generally has a higher amount of fluoride in it than mouthwash and you want that to stay on the teeth overnight if possible. My 6 and 8 year old enjoy trying the different mouthwash flavors. |
| Our dentist recommends it. |
| Mouthwash isn’t needed. It kills the good bacteria in your mouth. The alcohol can be very irritating to the gums and sensitive parts of skin in your mouth. All you need is floss once a day and brushing twice a day. |
All mouthwash doesn’t have alcohol |
+1 And there are specific kid-friendly ones that are more of a fluoride rinse than a mouthwash. |
The dentists recommend at night bc you're not really suppose to eat or drink afterwards - hence the nighttime recommendation |
True but mouthwash isn’t needed. It harms oral microbiome and does more harm than good. All you need is flossing, brushing, and regular teeth cleanings. You can also use a water pik. |

Listerine was marketed as a surgical antiseptic and powerful floor cleaner before being used as a mouthwash.
I would avoid these things. If you choose to, go with something more natural like Tom of Maine’s. |
Says Dr. Idiot on the Internet.

| My DC has deep crevices in her primary molars that have some decay. Dentist said there’s no way to prevent it because the toothbrush bristles don’t reach that far, and to use a children’s mouthwash nightly as a fluoride rinse to strengthen the enamel. |

Totally agree with you. We use it in the evening (my daughter is 8)
We use discounts for buying it here promocodius.com |
I’m a nurse and I have several dentists in my family and as friends. All of them say mouthwash isn’t needed. You can use it if you choose, but it’s not important. I love how immature babies like you resort to name calling when you’re too uneducated to understand. |
What’s your evidence to suggest you do need it? It’s nothing more than a marketing gimmick. |
Since you’re the idiot, I will educate you. Mouthwash destroys all bacteria in your mouth - bad and good. It can irritate gums and areas of your mouth. It can cause canker sores. It can stain your teeth. It’s not harmful overall but it’s not necessary or needed. All you need is proper brushing twice a day and flossing once a day. You’re an idiot if you can’t understand this. |
