what does a kid that needs an ECNL/MLSnxt team do...

Anonymous
this time of year! Kid had an injury and was out most of last year. Just is back to playing 100% end of last month. Crushing it again, but looking around it seems of course everyone has full roster.

Will teams still let kids come out to be assessed? Will it happen year round? He has several college coaches on the line this summer and needs a team this Fall.

Contact coaches for clubs that meet your criteria and leave this fourm without stopping at GO

This just occured to you? Receiving major interest from colleges and you're just getting to this now? Sounds like a lot of BS.
Where was the kid last year?

Reach out to the coaches of the team that your DS wants to play on and ask to practice. There is ALWAYS room at top teams for a fantastic player. Maybe not all clubs will be interested, but someone will.

😆 So true, not only on this forum. Any time someone asks for help or referrals, posters will come and question your question and make the worst assumptions ever all the while providing no productive or helpful information.

But the question is an odd one, kid had an injury, OK got it, but now needs to find a club?? What about his previuos club, was he ECNL/MLS prior? Do you not know what clubs play in ECNL/MLS next....any kid crushing it, will find a team to play for. Email coachew and ask to attend training.

I agree. The kid is good enough to get recruited, but they lost a roster spot due to injury?

Ha! +100

I think these posters are always worried someone is going to take their kid's starting spot. OP- happened to us. Coach left mid-season and new Coach that took over didn't know my kid at all. He had never seen him play, didn't know who he was. Kid was out all year and then couldn't make it to ID sessions in spring because still injured. New incoming coach had zero loyalty to the former team and cut everyone so my kid was left without a spot. Though technically my kid wasn't cut because he couldn't attend the sessions, but the sessions were 'required'. The injury took longer than anticipated so by mid-summer team was up to 24 kids already.

It worked out for us because not all Clubs are a-holes. A few were willing to at least have him come out to training even though they had full rosters and then he was offered a spot at 2 out of 3. WE actually were lucky because that was a toxic team apparently. Things happen for a reason. Good luck. Glad your kid is back on the field again.

Kids will come in late for many reasons--new to the area, injury, etc. It happens. Any Club that is unwilling to see and evaluate a player is not one you want to be at anyway.

^ forgot to add. He did end up getting recruited by 2 of the schools that saw him pre-injury. The were willing to see him post-injury. Playing at a top academic D1 school now.

With Covid and a trapped player this isn't an uncommon situation.

Think you're being a little unfair to the clubs here. It is perfectly reasonable for a club to say - look sorry the roster is full and it wouldn't be fair to the kids we have already committed to to bring in another kid at this point. I'd rather that than the opposite where a club accepts commitments from kids and then turns around and says - "sorry we just got a better player so you're out", or "sorry we just got a better player so we'll still take your money, but you won't be seeing the field much because we've got 24 kids on the roster now".
