| It’s a two day tryout for JV. Do they tell kids after day 1 not to bother coming back for day 2, or does everyone go to day 2? |
|
Varies by school but most schools do at least two days of tryouts for everyone just to make sure everyone got a fair look.
|
| I think it must vary by school. We’re at Wootton where tryouts take place over 3 days for boys and 4 for girls. If I remember correctly, they didn’t cut after the first day but did cut after the 2nd. And then made final cuts on day 3. If there are only 2 days of tryouts, I’d expect some cuts on day 1 unless they don’t have many kids show up. |
| Most schools usually do two days before any cuts. |
| And for schools where 120+ tryout for 20-ish spots, those first 2 days are all about speed. If you're not fast, unless you're a goalie, you're getting cut |
Are you serious that 120+ try out? I know that’s one of the more popular sports here but wow.
|
| More at DC's school, just for one gender. |
Why is that a surprise. These schools have 2000+ kids? |
I went to a smaller HS and there were no tryouts: everyone who wanted to be on the team could be on it. But I see this is almost impossible if there are over a hundred students wanting to join. That’s unfortunate. |
We’re you unaware how many kids are in the school? |
Yeah, that was my question really. My understanding is that first day is mostly running. My kid is coming off an injury from earlier in the summer and it’s not clear they will be back up to their regular speed. Wondering if there is a possibility they will get cut the first day. Rest of family is at the beach so if they get cut, we will try to join. For work reasons trying to figure out when that might be. |
Only the coach knows. |
Others might disagree but have your son reach out to the coaches with a heads up that he’s looking forward to trying out but is coming off an injury. I know my son’s JV coach is really understanding about this. |
| My kid's team did cuts today after 1 day. They return tomorrow. He expects to know on Friday. |
Depends on the school and how many players are trying out. Most will give the kids two days but if there's a high number of players trying out, it's not heard of to cut some after one day. |
